<Manchester City coasted to their first home Premier League win over Blackburn since 1993 with three first-half goals.
Defensive errors, both following Elano corners, allowed Felipe Caicedo and Robinho to score - with Belgian Vincent Kompany involved each time.
Then Elano blasted home a penalty following a handball from Gael Givet.
Rovers scored when Shay Given saved El-Hadji Diouf's spot-kick, only for Keith Andrews to follow up, but the visitors were unable to build on that platform.
The result kept Manchester City's bid for a Europa League spot alive, while Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce - who cut an animated figure for much of the match - left knowing his team are not yet certain of avoiding relegation.
This was City's 11th win at Eastlands in their last 12 matches across all competitions, testament to the attacking potential manager Mark Hughes has at his disposal.

Initially Blackburn's defensively-minded strategy stifled the home side, with the majority of City's attacks snuffed out before they had a chance to develop sufficiently.

That all changed with Caicedo's 27th-minute strike, a scrappy goal which came from Elano's well-flighted corner that Andre Ooijer failed to clear.

Kompany worked the ball through to Nedum Onuoha, whose shot was deflected to Caicedo, with the Ecuadorian gleefully converting from close range.
It was Caicedo's first Premier League goal since Boxing Day, and he celebrated by removing his top and picking up the obligatory yellow card.
When Elano took another corner, seven minutes later, it was Diouf who was at fault, playing the ball back into the Brazilian's path.
Elano found Kompany at the second time of asking, who did the right thing in seeking out Robinho, who was unmarked towards the back of the area.

Robinho's first-time shot was hit so sweetly with his right foot that Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson was rendered redundant.
Blackburn eventually managed to carve out two opportunities, but Ooijer's shot from outside the box went well wide before Benni McCarthy headed inches over from Diouf's cross.
City notched their third in first-half stoppage time as Robinho, with great pace, surged down the left in his salmon-coloured boots to release Stephen Ireland.
The midfielder's back-heel was stopped in the box by Givet's outstretched arm for an incontestable penalty - and Elano sent Robinson the wrong way with his spot-kick.

After a bright opening, the second half became a muted affair once Blackburn had scored their goal.
Again, there could be few complaints about the penalty, which was awarded by Mike Dean when Onuoha tripped up Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Given saved Diouf's penalty, but the ball eventually broke to Andrews after Diouf had miscued the follow-up - and the former MK Dons midfielder could barely miss.
After Blackburn's goal City were content to hold onto possession - and in any case they became less of a force once Elano was substituted.

Having said that, Blackburn had no McCarthy for the second half following a foot injury picked up early in the match and were unable to worry City unduly as the clock wound down to the final whistle.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes on the difference between his side's home form and on their travels:
"We have produced some very good football in this stadium. We have got a lot of points, scored a lot of goals and entertained people.
"Maybe next season we will try to not entertain quite so much when we are away from home."
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce feels a win against fellow strugglers Portsmouth next week will be enough to keep his side in the Premier League:
"We need to control our own destiny by winning, not rushing to the TV hoping other teams have slipped up, as we have done here.
"If we win next week it will be in the bag and we won't have to rely on what other people do."

MANCHESTER CITY hit Blackburn with a South American one-two-three to strengthen their Europa League claims at Eastlands.
Ecuador’s Felipe Caicedo opened the Blues’ account with a scruffy effort just before the half-hour.

Then it was Brazil’s turn as Robinho drilled home his 15th goal of the season on the 34 minutes before compatriot Elano stroked a precise penalty into the bottom corner on the stroke of half-time.

The victory keeps City well in the hunt for a place in Europe next season.
And £32.5million British record signing Robinho is ending his first season in England with a flourish after overcoming a mid-season dip in form.

In scoring for the third game on the spin, the former Real Madrid hitman has taken his seasonal tally to 15, all but one of which have come in league combat, a total bettered only by Cristiano Ronaldo and Nicolas Anelka.
City boss Mark Hughes said: “Robinho is an easy target.

“He is a high-profile player with a large price tag that people will highlight.
“He has been disappointing on occasion this season, he will admit that himself. But he is not the only one in that position.
“He is an outstanding talent and we are delighted he is here and if we can bring in more players of a similar standard that will enable us to grow as a club.

But despite the victory, Hughes will take no pleasure in the continuing plight of his old club, even though Blackburn’s six-point advantage on north-east duo Middlesbrough and Newcastle looks set to keep them in the Premier League.

For almost half an hour, Sam Allardyce’s injury-hit side battled manfully, but only had Tugay's woefully mistimed shot to show for their efforts.
Hughes must have been disappointed with the performance of his current club against his old one, particularly as City had something to play for.
Elano produced a couple of neat flicks and Stephen Ireland occasionally threatened something special.
However, it was totally in keeping with the contest as a whole that the opener should be one of the scruffiest seen in the Premier League all season.
Both Ryan Nelsen and Andre Ooijer had the chance to clear Elano’s cross and failed. Nigel de Jong’s response was an uninspiring prod towards Nedum Onuoha, whose shot lacked direction and power.
Caicedo managed to turn onto it but his effort was little better. It was however, enough to deceive a partially unsighted Paul Robinson who could only watch as it rolled into the corner.
Seven minutes later the former England keeper was beaten again.
Once more Elano crossed and De Jong ferried the ball on. This time though, there was a touch of class about Robinho’s precise finish.
It took the Brazilian’s tally for the season to 15 and made it three in three games after a long barren streak.
City had not finished their first-half scoring either.
Referee Mike Dean seemed to have made a fairly routine decision when he awarded a penalty for Gael Givet’s handball.
But Rovers’ protests were so fierce, Ooijer, Nelsen and Vince Grella were all booked. Not that it had any effect on Elano.
Like his fellow countryman Robinho, the midfielder seems to have found a rich vein of form and he tucked home his third goal in four games.
With victory assured, City returned to their former scrappy ways, the introduction of the popular Valeri Bojinov for Caicedo, who is starting to produce consistently effective performances, just about the only thing to raise a cheer.
Tugay’s bad tempered reaction to being substituted by Allardyce had diverted attention long enough to leave general bemusement at Dean’s second penalty award of the day.
Yet Nedum Onuaha’s clumsy attempt at winning the ball inside his own box definitely left an imprint on Morten Gamst Pedersen rather than the ball.
And while Shay Given was able to keep out El Hadji-Diouf’s penalty, plus his follow-up, substitute Keith Andrews was able to tap home the loose ball with his first touch.
Despite their greater enthusiasm, it was all Rovers could muster, so their fight for survival extends another week.
Rovers manager Allardyce said: "We need to control our own destiny by winning, not rushing to the TV hoping the other teams have slipped up, as we have done today.
“We want to make sure we get three points next week. If we do that it will be in the bag and we won’t have to rely on what other people do.”
“We were comfortable for most of the game but we lost two stupid goals.
“The penalty just rubbed salt in the wound and made it an almost impossible task to come back.
“You have to master the simple basics of marking right and clear the ball correctly. Unfortunately we did neither.”
