Manchester City are set to make a move for Edin Dzeko as the team were close to finalising a £36million for the Wolfsburg striker on Tuesday night.
The move comes as a surprise as the Bundesliga club has stated that the Bosnia international was likely to stay after Monday’s deadline for his £34 million buy-out clause passed without any offers for the 24-year-old.
City were competing with Manchester United, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Chelsea, who were all interested in Dzeko after he scored 27 goals in 46 games for Wolfsburg this past season.
Valencia’s David Silva was also a target for City this summer but it looks like one of football’s hottest commodities will be heading to the City of Manchester Stadium next season, according to the Daily Mail.
A £25 million bid was lined up for Dzeko last year but City backed off believing that the Bosnian would end up at AC Milan.
Wolfsburg inquired about City attackers Craig Bellamy and Roque Santa Cruz but neither player was keen to move to Germany.
Should Dzeko leave new Wolfsburg manager will be frustrated to see the talented forward go but his sale could give the Englishman some money to spend in the transfer market this summer.
