New Leeds United recruit Kasper Schmeichel firmly believes he is joining "one of the biggest clubs in England."

The Danish goalkeeper put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Thorp Arch on Thursday afternoon after Leeds beat a host of interested clubs into securing his signature.

Speculation about Kasper's future had been rife with media reports linking him to a host of top-flight clubs both in England and on the continent - but United's interest escaped the media attention, and the 23-year-old is more than happy that he has joined a "massive club."

"I've been talking to clubs, and when the question was raised about interest from Leeds I said yes," Kasper told LUTV.

"I've grown up in England, know a lot about English football, and I know Leeds is one of the biggest clubs in the country.

"There were other opportunties, but Leeds has everything, It's a massive club and has a massive fan base."

Kasper, a former Manchester United City apprentice, arrives from Notts County, where he kept over 20 clean sheets last season as the Magpies picked up the League Two title.

It was the goalkeeper's first season of regular football - he made 42 league appearances - and he is hoping to use the experience gained.

"I've experienced winning the league and once you've won a trophy you want to do it again. I can't wait to get started at Leeds.
