CITY are finally closing in on Carlos Tevez - and hope to get a deal done within the next 24 hours.

And the Blues' hopes of signing John Terry have been given a boost after the England skipper indicated he might be interested in a move.

City have been working hard to ensure that their £25m deal for Tevez does not fall foul of Premier League rules on third-party ownership.

Boss Mark Hughes is keen to get the Argentinian on board before City fly out to South Africa on Wednesday to take part in the Vodacom Challenge.

And although the club won't allow a deal to go ahead until they are absolutely sure it is within the rules, they are optimistic that it will be done in time for the trip.

The transfer has been held up because of last summer's Premier League rule change, which now prevents clubs from signing players owned by a third party - even on loan.

Tevez's economic rights are owned by a mystery group of investors fronted by Iran-born businessman Kia Joorabchian.

They retained those economic rights during the striker's two-year loan stint at United but the Premier League will no longer allow a repeat of that.

It means that City must buy the 25-year-old lock, stock and barrel to close the deal.

Chelsea have threatened to make their own late bid to snatch Tevez but City have always been his first choice.

And he is now odds-on to be the next new arrival at City, who ditched their attempts to sign Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o on Friday night.
